The Mainstage Craftsmanship contest will be on Saturday, September 7th,
at 6 pm in the Main Hall.
Rowan will have a sign up sheet at her booth Friday and Saturday. Sign up will end at 2pm so that prejudging can start at 3pm
- All costumes must be completed before your judging time block and
stage walk. Minor repairs are allowed during greenroom, but please
ensure your costume is complete before prejudging.
- Costumes that have previously won a “MAJOR” award (1st place, Best in
any category, Best in show, etc.) may NOT compete. If your costume is
found to have won an award, we hold the right as judges to disqualify you.
This is called sandbagging, which is extremely rude and unfair to other
contestants. If a costume has won a “MINOR” award (runner up, judge's
choice, or others*, but not), we will make an exception unless you have
more than three minor awards for that cosplay. However, please note that if
your costume has won any award BUT you have altered or changed at
least 50% of that costume, the cosplay may be permitted into the
contest! If you have any questions, please get in touch with the cosplay contest team; they will happily answer them or clear anything up!!
Please let the judges know if this is the case; we would love to know!
- Store-bought costumes will not be allowed in this contest. This is a
craftsmanship contest and is based on how much of the costume you
made. Please note that this is not to deter or discourage anyone from entering
contests, but we would like to keep it to Craftsmanship for this contest.
- You will be placed into a category for competition based on skill level. We
will ask about this on the sign-up form or in person. The classes are as follows:
-
Beginner: Any contestant who has never won an award in any
-
Costume/cosplay contest, or has won 2 or fewer minor cosplay (e.g., a Judge’s Choice award or Best Beginner Runner Up), should enter this category. The contestant must make at least 50% of your costume.
-
Intermediate: Any contestant who has won two or fewer significant
awards in any costume/cosplay contest or convention cosplay
contest (e.g., Best Beginner or Best Beginner craftsmanship)
should enter this category. The contestant must make at least 65% of your costume. awards -
Master: Any contestant who has won 3 or more major awards in any costume/cosplay contest, or convention cosplay contest, or someone who has income exceeding $10,000 per year from costuming, cosplay, stage performance, sewing, prop construction, wig construction/styling, or any other costume/cosplay-related field should enter this category. The contestant must make at least 75% of your costume.
We hope to keep the competition fair and fun by assigning you a class. If you are placed higher than you think you deserve, please get in touch with the judges and find out why this decision was made. Don’t undermine your work, either!
- At this time, we are unable to accommodate any custom music or special
effects.
The main stage cap will be 30 contestants. We would
love to have more, but since this is a first-time event, we are going to
keep it manageable!
MAINSTAGE PLACEMENTS (prizes to be announced):
-
Best in Show: This award is given to those who show extreme detail in their craftsmanship, wow the judges, and are overall the best. It is the highest award you can get in a cosplay contest.

-
Best Sewing: Awarded to the person(s) who have the best skills shown in sewing and fabric work
